Ruth has worked in educational settings throughout her professional career and loves sharing her knowledge and continually learning herself from whomever she is working with. She advocates excellent standards of vocal technique and musicianship in a positive framework where her students can thrive.
Choir Community runs vocal projects in both educational and community contexts. Ruth is currently working in a secondary school in Brixton delivering phase one of an educational program, which will in time develop into a choir for the whole community.
Voicelab is the Southbank’s outreach vocal project, where Ruth worked as a choral animateur for the Festival of Britain in 2012. Ruth worked in both primary and secondary schools to deliver the project, which culminated in performances at various venues at the Southbank.
Heythrop College is a university college in Kensington where Ruth was the Music Coordinator from 2008-2010, responsible for providing and supporting musical activities in the college. She founded student and staff vocal groups, coached bands and led song-writing workshops as well as producing a number of successful events.
Kingston Junior Music Festival is a large singing festival where primary school children from schools throughout the borough of Kingston come together to perform at the Rose Theatre. Ruth was the Musical Director in 2009, choosing songs, training non-specialist music teachers to deliver the songs, creating supporting resources and eventually directing a 400-strong choir of children and a band.
Wandsworth and Richmond Music Services provide tuition to primary and secondary school children. Ruth worked teaching voice, piano, musicianship and leading choirs from 2005-2009.
